Uyen-Thi Nguyen

What does it feel like? In my best days, I remember to ask this question and listen for an answer. All things alive feel. This is my work. To look, to love, to learn what it is to see with eyes unburdened by preconceptions. To find the relationships that are interlaced between within around us each. Sometimes the exploration reveals dark places, sometimes I simply bask in the ten thousand pretty things. I paint to express the inner world within exterior avatars, our human condition, the beauty and life around me.  -  Uyen-Thi Nguyen

In 2020, Nguyen received an individual arts grant from Lane Arts Council as well as Juror's Choice Award for her painting "At the End" at The Arts Center in Corvallis. She was awarded Moorpark College's Printmaking Award, a Fine Arts Award from the Simi Valley Art Association, and received scholarships to Art Center of Pasadena and Academy of Art San Francisco, where she studied for a time.

Her love of community lead her to coordinate youth arts programs at Emerald Art Center in Springfield, teach arts enrichment at Opal Center for Arts and Education and Delight in Cottage Grove, and serve on the Springfield Arts Commission and Cottage Grove Artwalk. She enjoys attending paint outs with the Plein Air Painters of Lane County and live model sessions shared by the Eugene Figurative Arts group. Figure drawing, a joy in itself, is at the heart of her practice.
